Anticipating a Quick Response
Ponder this for week 3: Are you optimistic or pessimistic about prayers being answered?
In looking more at real life May Day calls, I was curious about something. So, how long does it take for a May Day call to be answered? In looking at real life calls I see that the expectation is stated as IMMEDIATELY. I read that and thought, “That’s ambitious and vague all at the same time.” As I looked a bit more I found that the “target speed” for a May Day call to be answered is within 10 seconds. I further found that in the month of May to date for calls received in Atlanta, the average answer time is approximately 8 seconds. Other cities in the nation had a call response of up to 15 seconds.
As my practical mind read this, my spiritual mind began to work with that information. 🤔
None of us who sent up our May Day signal sent it in vain. We sent it out specifically, intentionally, and prayerfully. Not to mention those of us who added fasting to our show of faith. A question must be asked regarding your level of expectation. Are you in great expectation regarding your May Day signal?
In expectation of:
A response
A sign
A change
Any type of response that alerts you that God is paying attention to you
This question has to be posed not just for May Day but for your overall prayer life. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about praying? Are you a negative forecaster as you walk with the Lord? Sometimes pessimism or caution is simply our posture. We may have moved through life where caution was protection. Or, where expecting the worst to happen was safe because the worst was normal. For some, we have been in a “waiting season” for longer than we wish. Trauma gives us unconscious behavior, and we may not even be aware how that influences our connection with God.
If after evaluating and telling the truth, you find that you are just going through the motions during this May Day series. Or, that your whole heart is not truly tuned in to the power of God as you’ve sent your signal, I encourage you to…
Trust that God is paying attention to you.
He hears you.
He knows you.
Believe in Him.
And I pray Ephesians 3:14-21 over you.
Shake off any pessimism and any past experience you're making your reality. Shake it off with prayer, His Word, and what you have experienced God to be so far in life. Spiritually speaking, you’re in a position of power. The signal has been sent and He heard you. Allow that to be more than enough for optimism in relation to your May Day signal.
Keep going y’all.
